How to Choose a Body Kit That Actually Fits

A body kit designed for a different generation or trim of your vehicle will never sit right, no matter how good the install is. Before you buy anything — confirm the kit is listed for your exact year, make, and model, not just the general model line. Polyurethane is flexible and impact-resistant, and holds up well to minor bumps — the tradeoff is it's heavier, and paint can crack on it over time if it flexes too much. ABS plastic is lighter and often more affordable, but more brittle, so a bad parking job can crack it. Fiberglass is lightweight and precise for aftermarket fitment, but rigid — it doesn't flex like polyurethane, and can crack under stress instead of absorbing it.

There's no universally "best" material — it's about matching it to how the car's actually going to be driven.


Installation reality check

Some body kit components are close to bolt-on. Others require trimming, drilling, or professional paint matching. Before you commit, know what level of install you're signing up for — a straightforward lip kit is a weekend project for a lot of DIYers, but a full widebody kit is generally a job for a shop with real body work experience.
